MOT in Duxford, near Cambridge - DB Car Doctor
If your car or bike’s MOT is due and you can’t decide where to take it for testing, give us a call at DB Car Doctor and you’ll find a friendly, professional team here to help you. We arrange for Class 2 and 4 MOTs to be carried out by an experienced team of MOT testers in Duxford, near Cambridge.
Clearly, not all vehicles pass the MOT test and if your vehicle fails, the team will explain to you the reasons for failure and whatever work needs to be done for it to pass. If there are advisories, we’ll talk you through those so that you can decide whether to have those sorted now or wait until a later date, as you are absolutely entitled to do.
If you’re not sure when your MOT is due or if you have any questions about the test, don’t hesitate to call DB Car Doctor on 01223 343988 and one of our team will be more than happy to help and advise you. Or if you’d like to know more about MOT tests, read more below.
MOT stands for Ministry of Transport, and an MOT Test is a compulsory roadworthiness test for vehicles over 3 years old that are driven on public roads. It’s there to make sure that your vehicle meets the standard required for you and other road users to remain safe.
MOT tests come in different classes, but the majority of vehicles fall into Class 4. This covers 3- and 4-wheeled vehicles with up to 8 passenger seats, as well as some vans up to 3t. If you’re not sure which Class of MOT your vehicle needs, you can check on the gov.uk website, or give DB Car Doctor a call on 01223 343988 and we’ll advise.
It’s important to remember that an MOT test is not there to generate work for the garage, and a reputable garage like DB Car Doctor will never use it this way. Our first concern is always your safety. Rarely, ‘dangerous’ problems can be found, and will need to be sorted out, but most of the time your vehicle will pass with a clean bill of health or possibly with ‘advisories’.
‘Dangerous Problems’
If your car fails its MOT with ‘dangerous’ problems, you’ll need to get them fixed before you drive, as, apart from posing a risk to you and other road users, you can also get a fine of up to £2,500 and 3 penalty points on your license if you drive without getting the dangerous problems fixed. ‘Dangerous’ problems are very rare, especially for vehicles that get regular servicing.
Other Problems
There may be ‘major’ problems which also need fixing, and ‘minor’ or ‘advisory’ issues that should be fixed sooner rather than later but will not prevent you from driving your car.
If your vehicle fails, we’ll provide you with a “Refusal of an MOT Test Certificate” and it will be recorded in the MOT database.
To be able to drive your vehicle away for repairs, your vehicle must meet the minimum standards of roadworthiness.
Retest
If you only need a partial retest, you can leave your car with DB Car Doctor and we’ll retest it within 10 working days for free.
An MOT test is quite comprehensive and checks everything from the horn to the exhuast, the seatbelts, to the electrical wiring. It doesn’t check the condition of the engine, clutch, or gearbox, so it’s still important to get your car serviced regularly to make sure these are in good working order.
