Electric Car Repairs & Servicing

Why come to DB Car Doctor with your EV or Hybrid?

Here at DB Car Doctor, we specialise in hybrid and electric cars. Owner Danny is qualified to IMI Level 4 to work on them, and we have all the necessary rubber-tipped tools and equipment, so you know that your EV or hybrid is being worked on safely. We’re known across Cambridgeshire for our work on electric and hybrid vehicles, with private clients choosing us over their main dealer, as well as main dealers themselves bringing vehicles to us for work.

We know it’s not always convenient to bring your car to the garage, so at DB Car Doctor, we’re pleased to offer mobile EV & hybrid servicing and repairs.

What is an EV?

EV stands for Electric Vehicle. An EV is a vehicle that runs on electricity instead of petrol or diesel. This means that there are no emissions from the car, so they’re much better for the environment.

How do EVs work?

EVs have a battery that stores electrical energy, and an electric motor uses this energy to move the car. You charge the battery by plugging it into a charging point – just like you would charge your phone. It takes about 4-8 hours to charge a typical EV battery, but it can take as little as half an hour if you use a rapid charger like the ones at motorway service stations.

Once your EV is charged, you can drive for between 70-350 miles before you need to recharge again.

Different Types of Hybrid and Electric Cars

Electric vehicles (EVs) come in many shapes and sizes. Some are designed to look like classic cars, while others are sleeker and more futuristic in design. EVs can be classified into the following categories:

  1. Battery electric vehicles (BEVs): These EVs store energy in a battery that needs to be regularly recharged, similar to a mobile phone or laptop. BEVs have zero emissions and are very efficient.
  2. Plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs): PHEVs have both a battery and a fuel tank. The battery can be recharged like a BEV, but the PHEV also has the option of using fuel when needed. This makes PHEVs more versatile than BEVs, but they also produce emissions from the fuel engine.
  3. Hybrid electric vehicles (HEVs): HEVs have an electric motor and a fuel engine, but the battery cannot be recharged externally. HEVs use the fuel engine for long-distance travel and the electric motor for shorter trips or when stopped at a red light. HEVs are less efficient than BEVs but produce fewer emissions than traditional diesel or petrol cars.
